Williams Selyem Winery A Pinot Noir Lovers Heaven

Williams Selyem Winery

Any Pinot Noir lover knows Williams Selyem Winery. After all, they do have an extensive assortment of adored, well respected, and well scored Pinot Noir wines. After enjoying Williams Selyem wines at Charlie Palmer’s Pigs & Pinot Noir Event (read more about Pigs & Pinot Noir here), I was excited to visit the winery. So, I got to find out first hand the awesome history of this iconic Russian River Winery and learn more about the brand.

History of Williams Selyem Winery

Before I fast forward to my visit, it’s important to share the background of this brand…

As described on their website, “Williams Selyem Winery began as a simple dream of two friends, Ed Selyem and Burt Williams, who started weekend winemaking as a hobby in 1979 in a garage in Forestville, California. It took less than two decades from their first commercial vintage in 1981 for Burt and Ed to create a cult-status winery of international acclaim. Together, they set a new standard for Pinot Noir winemaking in the United States, raising Sonoma County’s Russian River Valley to among the best winegrowing regions in the world.”

Entering the Winery

We arrived for our tasting and our hostess warmly welcomed us. I always appreciate and notice small gestures like this because they make it clear that the winery really wants its guests to feel welcomed and appreciated.

Gorgeous Vineyards

These may be some of the most beautiful, rolling vineyards I have ever seen. Seriously, they were so stunning! I took a lot of pictures which you’ll see below…

The Wine Tasting

The warm welcome in the tasting room, which included a taste of their unoaked Chardonnay. This was a lovely wine, very clean and crisp with no oak, really, none at all since it’s made in stainless steel tanks. Although I tend to prefer a bit of malo, oak, and creaminess to my Chardonnays, I still appreciated the clean, fresh, bright taste of this unoaked Chardonnay.

Stunning Interior Decorating

The beautiful tasting room interior. We enjoyed a tasting outside (it was a beautiful day), but I was still in awe of this beautiful wall covered in Williams Selyem wine bottles, and the chic yet simple and clean design of this tasting room.

Amazing Outdoor Seating & Views

The beautiful patio where I enjoyed my tasting. Pretty hard to beat these views, the delicious wines, and the great company… Overall, I found the visit to Williams Selyem fabulous.  Our host was super informative, engaging, and really made the experience special. I loved the intimate setting and the beautiful vineyard views we were able to enjoy paired with the incredible wines. As a winery that offers more than 15 Pinot Noir wines, I was truly in heaven!

The cool wall where the winery keeps thank you notes from their guests. This inspired me to send a thank-you note (which hopefully they will receive by the time this post goes live!).
