Stinson Beach
People often ask what are some great day trips from San Francisco to neighboring parts of fabulous California? One of my favorites is from San Francisco to Stinson Beach. It’s about 45-60 minutes (depending what day/time you go) and there are various routes you can take each offering different beautiful scenery and stops along the way. I’d suggest the below itinerary which is what I did on my most recent visit with my Dad and his girlfriend Linda which was perfect. Also, be sure to plan to spend some time exploring Stinson Beach. Outbound San Francisco to Stinson Beach: Take the 101 North 7.6 miles, exit at 445 Mill Valley/Stinson Beach/SR -1, .9 miles make a left onto Shoreline Highway, after 2.6 miles take a right onto Panoramic Highway, take that 8.6 miles making another right onto Shoreline Highway. In .5 miles you’ll hit the charming town of Stinson Beach. This route is 21 miles and with no traffic will take 45 minutes or so. During a weekend when everyone has the same idea as you expect an hour or so. Regardless, do not rush as the drive is very windy and can be dangerous so be alert and whoever wants to take in the scenery and take pictures should not be driving!
Inbound Stinson Beach to San Francisco: Head South on Shoreline Highway towards San Francisco. Stay on Shoreline Highway .9 miles to Highway SR- 1. Take Highway SR-1 7.3 miles over the Golden Gate Bridge to San Francisco.
