2016 marks the 40th Anniversary of the historic “Judgment of Paris” tasting at which the Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars 1973 S.L.V. Cabernet Sauvignon took top honors among the red wines, triumphing over two first-growth and other renowned wines of Bordeaux. The surprise win was covered by TIME magazine and picked up by media around the world. The story of The Judgment of Paris brought international recognition to Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars and Chateau Montelena, the Napa Valley and the American wine industry as a whole.
I was invited to join at Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars for the 40th Anniversary celebration of the Judgment of Paris. It was a gorgeous evening in Napa where we celebrated the incredible Wines that had been won the Judgment of Paris competition including Stag’s Leap Wine Cellar’s Cabernet Sauvignon. See the event festivities and fun below.

Me and Winemaker Matthew Crafton of Chateau Montelena. Since Chateau Montelena’s Chardonnay was the white wine winner at the Anniversary, and Stag’s Leap Wine Cellar was the red wine winner, the festivities for this anniversary included both Napa Valley Wineries which was very fun and collaborative.
In honor of the 40th Anniversary of the Judgment of Paris, the 2013 S.L.V. Estate Cabernet Sauvignon (which officially released May 1), will be in a throwback label that looks very much like the winning 1973 S.L.V. Cabernet Sauvignon label. The 2013 label has a small gold band at the bottom of the label saying “40th Anniversary Vintage.”
A special thank you to the Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars Team for hosting me to this incredible event.
