For those of you who do not live in San Francisco we really don’t get summers like the rest of the country. By that I mean June and July is usually mid 60’s with lots of fog and clouds. As a result, when it is a gorgeous day out like this recent Sunday we really live it up. One of my favorite summer activities in San Francisco is attending the Presidio Picnic. For the past two or three years I’ve had my birthday parties here on Sundays with lots of friends gathering enjoying the beautiful Presidio setting, great company, wine, beer, amazing food and the lovely weather.
With the weather great I decided to bring a few of Total Wine’s Top 10 Summer Wines to share and enjoy with friends. I quickly fell in love with the Chateau Fabregues Costieres de Nimes Rose. It has a very light color and a lovely Provencian style taste which basically means it’s light, not too fruity, and very delicate. This is the style of Rose I adore, especially on a hot day when you want to drink throughout the day and not have the alcohol be too strong. At $14.49 you can not beat this rose. If you buy 6 or more it’s $13.04 per bottle which is quite a deal. I would for sure buy 6 of these to enjoy throughout the summer!
I am such a happy girl enjoying the sun, the beautiful Presidio park, hanging with friends and of course sipping on summer wines!
The beauty of the Presidio Picnic is Off The Grid has various food trucks come so you have a lot of yummy options to choose from. Sarah and I were craving a Lobster Roll so shared this which paired perfectly with the Rose and the Chardonnay.
The line up of wines I brought to try from the Total Wines Top 15 Summer Wines list. My favorite were the Chateau Fabregues Costieres de Nimes Rose and the Rondel Brut Cava. This was a pretty dry Cava which was light and refreshing. And at $8.99 a bottle or $8.04 (for 6 or more) this price was a steal! A Presidio Picnic tradition for me are the Totopos from Nopalito. They are so delicious and they sometimes even sell out so get them early if you love tortilla chips with ground pork, salsa, cotija cheese, onion and cilantro. So yummy!
I also brought a few nibbles for us to enjoy as we were deciding what food trucks to try. This Creminelli Salami and Maille Mustard (the best I truly can’t live without this mustard) were so yummy paired with the Rose.
After finishing the Total Wines Top 15 Summer Wines I brought, we moved onto another favorite the MacRostie Pinot Noir which Sarah brought for me to celebrate as a belated birthday treat. This is an incredible Winery in Healdsburg I send everyone looking to taste in Healdsburg to. Read more about MacRostie Winery here.
Fast forward a few hours later and we had finished the wines. Clearly a sign of a great event and delicious wines!
Thanks to these ladies for sharing a fabulous Sunday Funday with me at Presidio’s Off The Grid. Until next time…..
