I am beyond thrilled to share with you that The Matheson Healdsburg is open! The Matheson Healdsburg is a tri-level restaurant that reflects the spirit of Healdsburg. My friend, the fabulous Chef Dustin Valette of Valette, Healdsburg and partner Craig Ramsey are the ones behind this new hot spot. The Matheson honors Dustin’s great-grandfather who had a bakery in the Matheson site in the 1930s.
The restaurant is also stunningly redesigned by noted architect Cass Calder Smith of San Francisco and New York. Continue reading to learn more about this hotspot destination, and get to know the culinary leader & Co-Owner Dustin Valette below.
Chef Dustin Valette
I have been so fortunate to get to know Chef Dustin Valette over the past years. As you are probably aware, Chef Dustin has had tremendous success with Valette Restaurant and Valette Wines. I have shared lots about Dustin and these amazing brands over the years so am beyond excited for his newest project, The Matheson. Read about my visit to Valette Healdsburg, an Incredible Gem to Experience here.
Through local sourcing, philanthropy, and an engaged local customer base, Chef Dustin saw the need to give other makers’ and growers’ stories a louder voice.
Speaking of local growers and purveyors, Watch Chef Dustin’s Clover Cooking Demo here.
Valette Wines are absolutely delicious and they have something for everyone. I’ve recently tried their Rosé of Pinot Noir that I loved, read more on the Best Rosé Wines of Pinot Noir I Adore on my blog here.
The Matheson Healdsburg
The Culinary scene in Healdsburg is incredible with hot spots that you can see on my Healdsburg Dining Guide. So it really is a treat to have such an amazing new addition added to the Local list. The Matheson Healdsburg is such a welcoming environment, you’ll keep coming back for more.
The restaurant features a craft cocktail bar, sushi bar by Ken Tominaga (of Hana Sonoma and PABU SF). Along with a wine wall, private dining room, outdoor patio, mezzanine dining loft, rooftop cocktail bar, and a garden lounge with views of the Plaza.
Sommelier, Jon McCarthy has created the wine list to share Sonoma’s genius of winemaking. Who doesn’t want a delicious meal with a fantastic glass of wine? Read my interview with Wine Director Jon McCarthy here.

The cuisine at The Matheson Healdsburg is centered on the seafood flavors with a mixture of the coastal and regional aspects of Sonoma. There is depth in every dish just as Dustin Valette has always done with his cooking. I was able to learn firsthand from his amazing talents cooking with him. Check out my blog post on My Cooking Demo with Dustin Valette and his Delicious Macaroni and Cheese.
Everything is made fresh and grown and sourced locally. The pizza is one of my favorite dishes that I love having at The Matheson Healdsburg.

Me and Bob Valette who is an ambassador at Valette and The Matheson. He is there every night welcoming guests, walking the room and being very friendly! He’s one of my favorite fixtures at both restaurants and has become a great friend!
