My Matthiasson Wine Tour
Recently I had the pleasure of attending Flavor Napa Valley. This was a weekend of fun, learning, eating, and drinking some delicious Matthiasson Wine. Literally, four of my favorite things. I kicked off the weekend enjoying the Napa Valley Winery Tour where I visited Matthiasson Vineyardand Frank Family Vineyards. Both were magical for different reasons making for a morning of fun, delicious wine, and incredible experiences I am so grateful to have been able to enjoy. Thanks again to the Visit Napa Valley Team, Steve & Jill Matthiasson, and Rich & Leslie Frank for your hospitality. This was truly a special day!
Background on Matthiasson Wines
Having been familiar with Matthiasson Wines for a few years now with a vivid memory of tasting the Chardonnay at Union Larder, a charming San Francisco Wine Bar and realizing my wine palette had grown as I was beginning to appreciate cleaner, crisper Chardonnay Wines rather than the rich, creamy buttery Chardonnays I adored so much upon first moving to California. It goes to show, your palette really does change and grow with time, tasting, and knowledge.
What is the Winery like
Matthiasson Winery is much more unique than the typical Napa Winery you’ve probably visited. It’s pretty well hidden, off of Highway 29 with spectacular vineyards views, as well as breathtaking scenery including Steve and Jill’s house which is on the property. Upon arriving we crossed a small little bridge with views of a barn (shown above), the vineyard, and the house. Like I said. This is not your typical winery with tour buses and loads of people coming and going (which I try to avoid). It really feels more like a working farm with the farmhouse, the farm animals, and the grapes plus a few other plants, unlike the commercial wineries I came across so often.

A HUGE thank you to Jill & Steve Matthiasson for hosting and all that you do to make such incredible wines!
