Wild Fish Little River Restaurant A Must Try In Mendocino

If you’re in the Mendocino region of California, an area that is truly stunning and about three hours north of San Francisco, I highly recommend you check out Wild Fish Little River Restaurant.  It was recommended to me by two dear friends, Sarah and Tom, and they described it as super charming with the best food in the area. After experiencing it myself, I can agree it is truly one of a kind.

Wild Fish is owned by Liz and Kelvin Jacobs who work with local purveyors and harvest local provisions for this amazing gem. They feel very strongly about procuring and serving only the finest, most sustainable ingredients. It’s about being resourceful and taking in the bounty of the earth, a healthy rebellion against the reign of processed food.

“Liz Jacobs, a tenured food writer, believes that food transforms people. Her husband, Kelvin, is an award-winning chef. They relocated from Devon, England, where the couple previously owned and operated a restaurant and inn. Wild Fish opened on Thanksgiving Day 2011.”

I started with the delicious endive salad which had Cara Cara orange, blood orange, ruby red grapefruit, a roasted celeriac puree, toasted walnuts, and aged blue cheese in a citrus dressing. This salad was beyond fresh with such incredible flavors and freshness.

For my entree, I enjoyed a long cod fish with brussell sprouts and potatoes in a light buttery sauce. There was also more of the incredible caraway celeriac puree which I literally licked clean off the plate.  I also appreciated the portion sizes which were not huge but really appropriate and the food was so good that I ate every bite!

Of course, what meal is not complete with out a little chocolate dessert. Also delicious!

I enjoyed Little Fish so much that I went back the next day for lunch. This is the seafood soup which, on a rainy, gloomy day, was incredible. It had various seafoods in it and an incredible rich, comforting flavors. Once again, Little Fish blew me away with their incredible food.

I was also very curious to try the fish tacos which came with a fresh assortment of greens as well as some cole slaw. No surprise, this was just as fresh and flavorful as the fish I enjoyed the night before!

Thank you Liz and Kelvin for hosting me to dinner at your incredible restaurant. As you can see, I loved it, so much that I returned in less than 24 hours for lunch. I look forward to visiting on my next Mendocino visit or seeing you in San Francisco on one of your food scouting adventures!
