Behind The Scenes at Opus One Winery’s Harvest

Opus One Winery Napa Valley

Arriving on a gorgeous fall day in Napa Valley for a harvest visit at Opus One Winery. This feels like a once in a lifetime experience, probably because it is. I am beyond excited to see what lies ahead…

Leave it to Opus One for Ian my friend and their new Hospitality Manager to greet me at the curb as I arrive for my harvest visit.  This is my second time visiting Opus One Winery and this is a view I will never get tired of. How beautiful, special and spectacular. It’s especially amazing to be here during one of the most important and amazing times of year for a winery.

Upon arriving in the winemaking facility there were baskets of Opus One grapes laying ready to go into the sorting line and begin being processed. Let the winemaking begin!

These lush grapes are so beautiful. It’s especially crazy to think one moment they’re here and a minute or two later in the sorter being destemmed and then pressed into juice for their 2019 Opus One vintage!

Cheers to this incredible behind the scenes view at Opus One.

After watching the winemaking team hard at work, the visit was followed by an Opus One Wine Tasting. The day just kept getting better and better!

The tasting began in the cellar which overlooks the barrel room. These views are so amazing showing the Opus One Wines aging just below the winery. I was in the cellar a few years ago during my first visit to Opus One Winery. Read about that visit here  and find Opus One Winery featured in my Top 10 Napa Valley Wineries post here.

Enjoying the current release vintage of Opus One 2014. This wine is so beautiful and ages so well.  It has amazing structure, flavors, and tannins. This is something that’s so special to enjoy now but I’d love to see how it tastes in 10 – 15 years as well. Opus One Winery Napa Valley

This visit would not be possible without my friend, Ian Blessing who is the Opus One Hospitality Manager. He generously invited me in during harvest to experience this spectacular visit and delicious tasting. As always Ian, thank you for sharing spectacular wines and your company with me. I can’t wait to return to Opus One next year when their new Hospitality Center is complete. Wait until you see what they’re building to host guests. It’s going to be magnificent.

Thanks to the Opus One Winery team for inviting me in to visit during this year’s harvest. It was so much fun and so exciting seeing the behind the scenes that happen during this critical time of year at a winery.
