You can imagine my excitement after meeting talented acclaimed winemaker Aaron Pott at a Blackbird Vineyards Dinner at Charlie Palmer Steak (read more about that evening here) and being invited to visit his Mount Veeder Winery, see the vineyards and taste wine together. See more about this incredible afternoon with Aaron below…
Upon arriving to his vineyards we immediately hopped in his truck to tour the vineyards. He is literally at one of the highest and steepest points on Mount Veeder so it was quite a scenic drive as you’ll see.
Even on a cold foggy day you can see the stunning rolling hillside of Mount Veeder and the Napa Valley below.
Aaron is in his element all smiles showing us his beautiful vineyards. There are 215 acres here with 5 acres planted for Pott Wines. The vineyard is organically farmed by Aaron and 3 other men who help.
Arriving to the house for a warm and cozy wine tasting by the fire. Does it get more heavenly than that?
My dad and stepmom Linda joined me for the visit and my dad was loving chatting with Aaron about the vineyards we had just seen, the grape varietals we were tasting and learning about the various wineries he makes wine for (there are many). Some interesting facts we learned during the tasting are below:
Pott Wines is made with wood and terra cotta barrels.
Pott Wines production is 1K cases, very small and limited.
Everything is organically farmed and grown here.
This vineyard located on Mount Veeder is quite close to the Bay Area. As a result they get bud break earlier than other area of Napa (such as Howell Mountain). During the day Mount Veeder is approximately ten degrees colder than the valley floor.
What a blast tasting Pott Wines with Aaron Pott and seeing first hand the incredible vineyards these grapes came from. Thanks Aaron for sharing your beautiful wines with us and spending such nice quality time hosting us.
