What is Brenda’s Meat & Three: Brenda’s Meat & Three is a fabulous BBQ restaurant in San Francisco’s Nopa area which is similar to the traditional southern “Meat & Three” offering one meat served with three sides.

Why is it a must try for San Francisco BBQ: Brenda’s is a San Francisco BBQ institution. Any SF foodie knows that Brenda’s (her original location on Polk Street called Brenda’s French Soul Food is out of this world. Her second location Brenda’s Meat & Three  opened in October of 2014 and his been immensely popular ever since.

When is it best to visit: If you’re a brunch person I’d recommend brunch as every time I’ve driven by Brenda’s Meat & Three on a weekend the lines are out the door. However, I’ve visited during a weekday for lunch and for dinner and it wasn’t as bad of a wait. The food is fabulous whenever you go so it just depends what works best for you.

What should you eat: Hopefully I don’t need to tell you that at a BBQ restaurant (and not just any BBQ restaurant, an extremely popular one for that matter), EAT the BBQ!  I’ve had the Fried Chicken Platter with a Biscuit (which you MUST try) which comes with amazing Jam that is so sweet and lovely it’s hard not to devour the moment you experience it. I also have had the cole slaw, which I recommend and the french fries (which were fine, but not a must try). On another visit I had more of the Meats and some new sides which you can read about below. Open daily except Tuesday 8:00am – 10:00pm.  919 Divisadero, San Francisco, CA 94115. 415.926.8657

My favorite dish, The Fried Chicken with Slaw, a biscuit and fries. The Slaw and Biscuit are not to be missed, the fries are ok but I’d maybe be more adventurous and try something more Southern!

My dinner visit enjoying Ribs, Brisket and some more Fried Chicken. I am a huge Ribs girl and love these so I’d recommend Ribs & Fried Chicken with a biscuit, cole slaw, cauliflower gratin and mac and cheese.  Really, it’s hard to go wrong but those are JSF favorites!

Told you, I LOVE Ribs and these were incredible. Super soft, falling off the bone with a delicious sweet BBQ sauce. Yummy!

Sadly by the time dessert came we were too full to order but our neighbors enjoyed this Sunday and said it was incredible…. I’ll report back next time.
