Another winery I had the pleasure of visiting during my recent trip to The Douro Wine Country of Portugal was Lavradores de Feitoria. Located within the Mateus Palace this winery is truly a gem. Not only because of the incredible setting but their wines are amazing and the team I met are quite fabulous!
Feitoria is composed of a group of 15 producers, one of whom resides at the Mateus Palace (shown above and below). In 2017, Feitoria plans to build a new winery that all 15 producers will share. It will be built on the Quinta Do Medronherio Estate and it will be on the top of the hill of the vineyards shown below. Zona Industrial de Sabrosa 5, 5060 Sabrosa, Portugal
Paulo of Porto Reccua Wines, me, and Sara from Lavradores De Feitoria. What a lovely evening sharing wine and getting to taste some varietals I had yet to experience on this trip.
The lovely tasting with Sara from Lavradores De Feitoria, located in their stunning tasting room within the Mateus Palace. I truly connected with these wines and this brand. Probably because they were less tricky blends than the majority of the Douro Wines I experienced (which is typical since most wines have an average of 7+ grapes in them), and these wines were very feminine, balanced, and flavorful.
The lovely Sara who hosted us and shared her amazing knowledge and wines with me and Paulo.
Here are three different white wine I tasted. The first a 2015 Douro was light and crisp, made with stainless steel tanks. This was awarded by Wine Spectator and after tasting I can understand why!
The second wine, tres bagos was a very unusual blend with stone fruit flavors. This was also very nice and special in it’s unique flavor profile.
The third wine, the meruge is 100% Viosinho Grape (which I now know that I adore). With creamy flavors and just an overall loveliness- this was my favorite. It also sells for $24.99 in the US, what a great price.
The location where the new Winery, Quinta Do Medronherio Estate, will be built.
