Williams Selyem Winery
Any Pinot Noir lover is familiar with Williams Selyem and their extensive assortment of adored, well respected, and well scored Pinot Noir wines. After enjoying Williams Selyem wines at Charlie Palmer’s Pigs & Pinot Noir Event (read more about Pigs & Pinot Noir here), I was excited to visit the winery and find out first hand the awesome history of this iconic Russian River Winery and learn more about the brand.
Before I fast forward to my visit, it’s important to share the background of this brand…
They are best described on their website as, “Williams Selyem Winery began as a simple dream of two friends, Ed Selyem and Burt Williams, who started weekend winemaking as a hobby in 1979 in a garage in Forestville, California. It took less than two decades from their first commercial vintage in 1981 for Burt and Ed to create a cult-status winery of international acclaim. Together, they set a new standard for Pinot Noir winemaking in the United States, raising Sonoma County’s Russian River Valley to among the best winegrowing regions in the world.”
Arriving for our tasting and being welcomed warmly by our hostess. I always appreciate and notice small gestures like this because they make it clear that the winery really wants their guests to feel welcomed and appreciated.
These may be some of the most beautiful, rolling vineyards I have ever seen. Seriously, they were so stunning! I took a lot of pictures which you’ll see below…
So excited and about to visit Williams Selyem Winery and take in this beautiful scenery, their amazing wines, and their tasting experience.
The warm welcome in the tasting room, which included a taste of their unoaked Chardonnay. This was a lovely wine, very clean and crisp with no oak, really, none at all since it’s made in stainless steel tanks. Although I tend to prefer a bit of malo, oak, and creaymness to my Chardonnays, I still appreciated the clean, fresh, bright taste of this unoaked Chardonnay.
The beautiful tasting room interior. We enjoyed a tasting outside (it was a beautiful day), but I was still in awe of this beautiful wall covered in Williams Selyem wine bottles, and the chic yet simple and clean design of this tasting room.
The beautiful patio where I enjoyed my tasting. Pretty hard to beat these views, the delicious wines, and the great company… Overall, I found the visit to Williams Selyem fabulous. Our host was super informative, engaging, and really made the experience special. I loved the intimate setting and the beautiful vineyard views we were able to enjoy paired with the incredible wines. As a winery that offers more than 15 Pinot Noir wines, I was truly in heaven!
I also loved how our tasting was customized for us with a place setting and all. They really know how to make a guest feel welcomed at Williams Selyem and they are so fabulous with the entire hospitality experience.

Enjoying a barrel sample during our tour.
The cool wall where the winery keeps thank you notes from their guests. This inspired me to send a thank you note (which hopefully they will receive by the time this post goes live!).
Touring the barrel room.
Views of the Winery from the hilltop where there is a look out point for tasting and guests. Talk about incredible views!
A special thanks to the Williams Selyem team for hosting me and my friends to your beautiful winery. Enjoying the stunning views and these vineyards, all paired with your lovely wines and incredible hospitality, made for a fabulous day in Healdsburg. I look forward to visiting again soon!
