Situated amongst the beautiful rolling hills of Western Santa Ynez Valley, Melville is dedicated to producing exceptional cold-climate Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Syrah grown exclusively in their estate vineyards throughout the Sta. Rita Hills appellation. Melville Winery started in 1996 with founder Ron Melville’s desire to grow cold-climate Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Syrah which led to him purchasing Melville Vineyards in the Sta. Rita Hills, located in the Western Santa Ynez Valley of Santa Barbara County. Today, Ron and his son, Chad Melville, uphold Melville’s tradition as one of the most highly-regarded estates in California.
Views from the tasting room of their vineyards
The lined up of Chardonnay & Pinot Noir we tasted during my visit. I fell in love with Melville Winery during this visit. The variety of Pinot Noir from three different blocks within their vineyards was incredible. They all had great body, fruit flavors and incredible noises (a trait of Santa Barbara Pinot Noirs that I adore).
The 2012 Estate Pinot Noir was my favorite, although I would be thrilled to be enjoying any Melville Wines you put in front of me!
Thanks to Melville Winery for hosting me during my visit and sharing your amazing history, winery and wines with me.
