People often ask me what’s the biggest difference between living in San Francisco and New York City. Well in the food world I’d say the biggest differences between living in San Francisco vs. New York City people are that 1) People in SF Eat Ice Cream 2) That the ice cream being eaten is REAL Ice Cream. By real I mean it’s not Tasti D-Lite or PinkBerry the low calorie frozen yogurt type of spots which were all over New York City. In San Francisco its real ice cream and it’s DELICIOUS. In an effort to settle into California living and being the foodie that I am I quickly embraced this California Ice Cream loving vibe. I’ll be sharing my favorite San Francisco Ice Cream spots I’ve discovered during the two years I’ve been living in San Francisco.
The first fabulous SF Ice Cream destination I love is Smitten Ice Cream located in Hayes Valley in a former shipping container. Their website does a great job sharing the Smitten story so follow along below and you’ll understand their cool history and brand. However, to fully understand why Smitten Ice Cream is so great you’ll need to go visit and taste for yourself. I love the creamy feel of their ice cream and the real rich taste of the ingredients. For example, in their Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream they use real mint leaves which taste incredible. It’s so noticeable and different from a typical Mint Chocolate Chip taste that it makes you wonder about all the fake ingredients found in the average ice cream. Check out Smitten Ice Cream for yourself and I promise you will NOT be disappointed!! In addition to their SF location they have three other locations in the Bay Area. 432 Octavia St. #1A (at Linden St.) San Francisco, CA 94102. 415-863-1518.
