Located far from the beaches but close to the mountain, Truckee is one of those California towns that will change the way you think about California. In addition to the pleasant weather in the summer, the town turns into a huge ski and snowboard resort in the winter. A short four-hour drive from San Francisco, Truckee is a great vacation spot year-round, and getting there by train is another option for those who don’t drive or want to avoid the traffic many face Friday evenings after work driving up and Sundays as they head back to the Bay Area.
