Anderson Valley’s Pennyroyal Farm

If you’re visiting Anderson Valley and want something to do besides, just wine taste, I suggest seeing Penny Royal Farms. And yes, they do have their own wines (who doesn’t in this incredible wine making region), plus incredible cheeses, their own farm and an amazing menu of yummy eats to enjoy. Penny Royal Farms has quickly established itself as an adored fixture in Boonville. What’s not to love…. an amazing small family owned business, incredible cheese, wines, goats and sheep, plus an on site Chef and of course the goat whisperer (my nickname for the husbandry role of the person managing the goat farm) who raises and manages all aspects of the animals at this farm.

Penny Royal Farm

Pennyroyal Farm is located in Boonville, California, in beautiful Anderson Valley.  See some of my other Top 10 Favorite Destinations in Anderson Valley here. The estate vineyard includes 23 acres on the Boonville bench, planted in Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc. Pennyroyal Farm is committed to producing handcrafted wine and farmstead cheese, with cheeses produced exclusively from the milk of goats and sheep that are raised on the family farm.  The  pampered, beloved animals munch on wild grasses and pennyroyal mint that blanket the property. The milk is transformed into fresh and aged cheeses just steps from the animal pastures.

Beginning my farm tour seeing the first stop where the goats are milked. They walk up the little ramp (shown above) to then stand and get milked. They apparently love this as while they’re milking they get to enjoy a favorite treat  of corn barley molasses mix.

During my visit a few litters had just been born (within the past few nights) so I got to see a lot of baby goats and baby lambs. They were the cutest. This was better than a zoo as they looked happy, well fed and just inches away from me and my camera!

This guy was so chill he even let some of us on the tour pet him (not me I was a bit shy) but he was adorable.

A preview of some of the delicious eats available in the tasting room. This delicious french bread with goat cheese was divine. Seriously, this spot is the best. Amazing food, wine, people, goats and lambs.

A special thanks to Sara & Star the Penny Royal Farm Owners who hosted me on this amazing Penny Royal Farm Tour. What a treat getting to be so close to the beautiful animals making this farm so amazing.
