For my family’s annual Fourth of July trip to Door County (D.C.) Wisconsin in 2011, I was thrilled to discover my new favorite restaurant in Ellison Bay Door County. It wasn’t technically a find since I had seeked out the hottest spot in town by asking my sister’s Mother in Law Joani and she suggested The Wickman House. She said it’s the hot new spot in town. Wow, she couldn’t have been more right on.
Wickman House
If you’re looking for a charming atmosphere, delicious farm fresh food, and sophisticated New York style cocktails this is the place for you. It’s owned by two men Mike Holmes and Joe Fahrenkrug, who moved to Door County after 10+ years in New York City (Mike in Brooklyn) and Joe in Madison, Wisconsin. Their story’s very cool, growing up in Wisconsin and working their way through college working at T Ashwell’s, (the former restaurant) in what is now the Wickman House. Both locals and summer visitors to Door County will appreciate this amazing restaurant. Be sure to try their inventive take on Wisconsin’s favorite “Wisconsin Goat Cheese Curds” with a delicious tasty sauce. The Wickman Wedge and NY Strip were also delicious. As a former New York Foodie, now a West Coast San Francisco Foodie, I couldn’t be happier to stumble upon such a wonderful find in perfectly relaxed, family friendly Door County. 11976 Mink River Rd.
