During a recent trip to Portugal last December I had the pleasure or visiting one of the most unique, memorable hotels, or castles as they call it in Europe. The Belmonte Castle is owned by husband and wife Frederic and Maria (see more about them below) and is like no other hotel I have visited. This beautiful caste was bought by Federic and took years to restore and get to the beautiful point it is at today. As you see my pictures you will understand the love, care and attention to detail Federic put into this incredible castle as he restored it.
One of the living room spaces available for all guests. The tiles on the wall were beyond stunning. What I truly adored about the Belmonte were the various nooks and crannies you could get lost in reading a book, enjoying wine with your travel partner or just relaxing and taking in the beautiful architecture and design. Anyone who loves a unique beautiful experience like no other should spend some time staying at this hotel.
The little bar nook. The shelf on the left is the bar that’s complimentary to all guests. I loved this touch, it really feels like you’re a guest at a friend’s home or dipping into your own liquor cabinet.
The sitting room where I relaxed before dinner enjoying a cocktail from their charming bar
Hotel owners Frederic and Maria. They are beyond charming and truly make you feel like a guest in their home.
The Amadeo de Suoza Cardoso suite. This suite is lined with an impressive collection of XVIII century “azulejo” tile panels and a cathedral ceiling. The suite has it’s own library, a big living room with a king size bed in Mezzanine and a dining room.
Running along the length of the suite is a veranda with a stunning view of the garden and the Tagus river behind, giving the entire suite incredible light. It has a most fascinating marble bathroom, and an additional private terrace. Read more about this suite here.
I love how the historic tiles are blended seamlessly in this suite with modern details such as this circular staircase.
Another one of the beautiful suites
Views from my suite’s dining room/study up the stairs to my bedroom. The Bartolomeu de Gusmao Suite where I stayed had four floors including the private roof terrace. What a spectacular place to call home for a night. Read more about my private suite here.
A huge thank you to the Belmonte Castle for hosting me to their lovely home during my stay in Lisbon. This is truly like no other hotel I have experienced. I felt like I was in a friend’s home with my own mini palace, in my case my own suite and access to the beautiful shared space of this lovely historic home with stunning views, amazing architecture and interior design.
